"Hacker" breaks into SETI Sites?
Information from a so-called hacker. Here's the transcript:
A computer hacker who calls himself "The Fixer" sent us a series [two] of images which he claims to have downloaded from an intrusion in The SETI Institute's computer system in Mountain View, California In keeping with our policy to report all events concerning the EQ Pegasi story we are posting the following which arrived minutes ago at our email (seticontact@mydejanews.com): [an anonymous free web-based email address that bounces back to sender Try it].
G'day mates - I hope you find the following images of use in understanding the true nature of this conspiracy to hide what appears to be alien contact. I am part of an international team of freedom of information types (some would call us hackers) who felt we should be able to shed light on this by using our various techniques. I was lucky enough to gain entrance into the systems at:
VGER.SETI-INST.EDU 204.31.95.7 HERTZ.SETI-INST.EDU 198.120.9.5 MX.NSI.NASA.GOV 128.102.18.31
One of the nice things about the Internet is that if you are crafty enough you can see that NASA is still linked to Project Phoenix (they use each other's computers) though you would not know that from looking at their web propaganda (Sure they would release the signal when it came!). Anyway here are the screens we found which appear to be of the September detection of the signal at 1210 Mhz from EQ Pegasi:
First of all, anyone with a simple DNS lookup program (like the freeware program NetLab) could get the IP info from the SETI sites listed above. It does not take a hacker to figure this one out, so this is certainly no proof that these sites were hacked. As for the images:

Images such as these can be found at: http://www.seti-inst.edu/phoenix/pioneer10.html#test
There is no way to tell what we are seeing here, whether they were hacked, whether they have been altered, or when they occurred. Previous indications suggested they may have been altered, but it appears now that they are real Project Phoenix screen dumps. This presents the probable hoaxer(s) with an almost unarguable position in that no one can verify any of this information, save, perhaps, the real SETI organisations who own these screen plots, but they would probably not be believed anyway.
