Turret Peak Event - Re: Radar Images

Radar Image: Base Reflectivity Loop - Southwest Mosaic

The analyses at these two URL's allude to the fact that the radar image from 2007 UTC is supposed to show outright or otherwise correlate with an EMP that occurred sometime the evening of 12/6. I'm a bit confused by this because the ELFRAD images show something at both 2000 UTC on 12/6 and at 0237 UTC on 12/7. If the purpose of these pages was to show how the 0237 UTC EMP correlated with the shown radar loop, there is a serious problem as the radar loop ends 3 1/2 hours before that EMP was detected. I guess the main correlation is supposed to be between the 2000 UTC ELFRAD EMP and the 2007 radar image, with the "circle around Turret Peak" being the smoking gun? Well, to begin with, what is labeled as "Turret Mountain" on one of the images at .../pulscld.html ISN'T TURRET MOUNTAIN! My map shows that Turret Mtn is due east of the bend in the Colorado River south of Lake Havasu. (Since there are no features on the radar maps, I had to go with the bends in the CO River!) The image referred to clearly points to a location north of there, and apparently northeast of the map location of Turret Mtn. The caption claims that the circular radar return emanating from this area is coming from Turret Mtn. and is proof of strange doings. Well, Turret Mtn. isn't actually where this image says it is, but I'll tell you what is...the WSR-88D radar system for the Flagstaff office of the NWS is located on a mountain top about 25 miles northeast of Turret Mtn. It is therefore logical to assume that the circular pattern, whatever it's reason for being, was indeed centered on an actual known radar location, not Turret Mtn. Such patterns in this case can be caused by light precipitation or a layer of clouds at the same altitude. Anything appearing in a circular pattern around one of these radars indicates the same thing...somewhat uniform phenomena at a constant altitude. Also, this pattern was seen for only a short period of time and centered on 2007 UTC, which is 1:07 PM Arizona time. I hardly see how something detected at 1:07 PM correlates with something else that was supposed to have been focused around a time frame about 6 hours later! I suppose one can argue that the circular radar return could still have been produced by something other then precip or clouds. I would have to privy to weather conditions in the area at the time to make a further determination on that.
Short and Sweet: "Ring" on radar images is centered on a known WSR-88D radar location, not around Turret Mtn. Further, the time of the images indicate that this occurred at 1:07 PM Arizona time, a full 6 hours before when the peak EMP and strange activity was supposed to have occurred. The fact that the persons who originally analyzed this data misplaced Turret Mtn. and did not research the location of known radar sites in the area detracts considerably from the potential validity of their conclusions.
