No, this is not true. We're not exactly sure how this
rumor got started, but
that's all it is... a rumor.

Hello Margaret,
Thank you for speaking with me today. Below you will find the
email I
received about your Y2k issues.
Again, my details below. It would be preferable if you could just
email me
with your response. Thank you.

Subject: Y2K challenge
Attendees of Wisconsin Y2K user's group, August 19, 1998. Were
told by
Wisconsin Electric that they:
A) Have 12 Catepillar D9 bulldozers
B) 4 had Cummings Diesel engines which would have Y2K problems
C) The Y2K issues were with the oil pressure monitoring assembly
D) The front end loaders would shut on 1/1/2000
E) Repair cost $2,400 EA.
Thats all the detail I have in my notes - however it is the most
detail I
seen on any claimed embedded failure. I did try to independently
verify
the problem by checking Cummings web site and with a couple
Emails to
Cummings but didn't get anywhere (neither confirmation nor
denial)
Wisconsin electric has put me through to their Y2K section
without problem
in the past
(414) 221-2345 corporate office
(414) 221-3333 customer service.
Its the best I have.
